all about parakeets - Parakeets Questions

Question #1:

What's the best material for parakeet cage cover? Will an old cotton tablecloth do?

Question #2:

Can two male parakeets be happy as companions? I don't want to get a female, because I don't want breeding.?

Question #3:

Need advice from experienced parakeet keepers! Just adopted an orphan bird.?

I had a ring neck dove as a pet (27 years in fact--he died 2 mos ago) but know nothing about parakeets.
A stray parakeet was captured this morning after flying around for a couple of days at my local Home Depot store by some caring employees, and, since I was there and they didn't know what to do with him, I've just brought him home! We have a nice big cage and there's lots of online advice, of course, but I'd really appreciate tips from any of you who know these darling little birds well. Can I keep him alone? Food high in cage or low? Should I give him a few days in a quieter part of house to acclimate? Thanks for your help!! (and what do you think--------should I name him Homer or Depot?!)

Question #4:

why did my parakeets freak out last night 0.o (srry kinda long)?

ok it starts lk this:
woke up at around 4:30 in the morning by a txt from a friend n since i was already up i though i might as well go to the bathroom. after i was done i was about to turn off the hallway light when i heard some flapping and jumping coming from my birds down stairs. i thought mabey they were just squabbling over a spot at the perch or something. as i listened on i heard no squaking or chittering jst a lot of violent jumping and flapping. it might hav been 30 secs that passed before i went downstairs to check. n the noises continued until i uncovered the cage. i found the female grasping the front of the cage and the male was on the bottom. they were both panting, n it looks as though something frightened them. since the male was on the bottom i was wondering if mabey it was sick or injured so tried waveing my hand nxt to him to test if he was still alert, he didnt seem to notice my hand nxt to him which was odd becuz he usually flinches. same goes for the female she didnt flinch wen i tried to open the door until bout 3 secs. then she start flipping out again. i think it was mostly the female who was freaking out more bcuz i didnt see the male do much. called my mom over to check nothing seems to be wrong, she covered the cage n they both went back on their perch including the male so i suspect that he wasn't injured. nxt morniging everything was fine and back to normal with them, they were chirping and everything lk the event last night didn't even occured. i had a theory that mabey they saw or sensed a cat but then again the cage was covered n the window blind covered most of the window n they dnt really seem to mind cats since they r outside.
@ Lia: well i guess the falling could make sense, but then y did she freak out a min after i uncovered that cage i mean it wasnt a supprise or anything she knew it was me

Question #5:

Is a bird or a cat better for me?

I have owned two cats in the past, but we had to give them up due to a move. I know that's a common excuse, but we moved by car, and they would not enjoy being stuck in a cat carrier for three weeks. I have taken care of two parrots for a month for my friend Andrea, who was in Hawaii for her sister's wedding (they had to help with the prep), and once handled the Red Factor Canaries at a nearby bird store. Oh, and this store is a small, family-run business, so they do let you do this from time to time. That's it for experience.

I wanted a canary, cockatiel, or possibly parakeet if I got a bird.

I wanted a Siamese or Tabby (Like we used to have), but only from a shelter.

I have the money for either, noise isn't an issue, we have a good vet for either nearby, and we have considered smell a vague issue, but the cat's litter box would be in the basement. It is warm enough down there, by the way. I'm confused, because either would work.
I can't get both, idiot.

Question #6:

Advantages of clipping wings?

My cockatiel is still pretty young, and hasnt grown out her very first wing clip yet. Shes never flown in the months Ive had her.
Now, for beauty sake, I'd rather not clip. However, Ive heard it may be dangerous to leave her un-clipped. Ive had parakeets in the past and clipped their wings for simple hassles sake ( as soon as they saw you coming at the end of the day, they'd fly far out of reach, they didnt want to go back into their cage!) However, I havent had any problems with my cockatiel, but I also dont know what to expect once shes gains her flight? Is it normal for them to get into dangerous situations when allowed to fly?
Pros and Cons would be appreciated!

Question #7:
