Question #3:

My Parakeet won't eat any fruits or vegetables!?

Hi! I have 2 Parakeets. I have tried almost everything from feeding them them the greens just in a dish to putting seeds over them. My parakeets will just not eat any of there greens! I was reading the magazine Bird Talk (Sept. 2010) when I looked at the "Ways to drive your avian vet crazy Part 1" part and I came to number 2 when it said feeding your bird a seed-only diet. I want my birds to stay healthy so I need and answer fast!

Thanks,

Question #4:

Do my parakeets seem happy? How would you rate their care?

I have two parakeets, a blue male: Blizzard, and a rare female: Minty. (Rare parakeet is the breed, she is gray, yellow, green, black and white.)
They live in this cage: Click Here
and I keep one of the blue top roofs propped open so they can fly around whenever they want in my (birdy proofed) room.
They have a rope perch, three wooden, and a couple plastic swings. They always have access to millet spay, and occasionally I put in birdy treat sticks. They have an assortment of toys that I rotate every once and a while, and they always have fresh bird seeds and water. (their water is in a bird bath that they drink/swim in.): Click Here
They get daily attention by me and my family, and will perch on your finger and Minty gives "kisses" (she will lean over to your lips and give you a peck) :)
They don't have their wings clipped - I don't like the thought of them not being able to fly as they're meant to.
Also, the only eat their seeds/treat sticks/ and millet spray. Occasionally they will munch on some Triscut crackers, but I'm thinking they're shredding them more that eating it. they won't touch any veggies or fruits, and I cant get them to eat pellets (which I know are better for them) so.. help??
Oh, their cage is cleaned daily, too.
thanks!!
rate 10 to 1. 10 being amazing, and 1 being poor.
tell me what to improve on. I wan't them to live long, healthy, happy lives.
(I've had them for nearly 10 years.)
Okay, typo! i've had them for nearly 4 years.. whoops. thanks for everyone whose answered, i will definitely try switching to pellets and introducing new healthy foods :)

What's wrong with my bird?

I have a parakeet and his name is Mr. Whiskers (lol) and he is always getting in my pantry and eating my hotdogs, but luckily they were green and nasty so no harm done. But I'm afraid it ate something bad in there like chocolate (aren't they allerjic to chockolete?) so I give it baths sometimes and i always take it for walks everyday.

In the store i NEVER see two different color parakeets being really good friends: like sleeping together and cleaning each other.Mine sleep in two opposite sides of the cage? We have had the new one for 4 days now and they still are picking at each other. Should we go back and get another blue one???

tinyurl::: Click Here

If you look at the pics he's the green one. He has a big bump by his beak. and i think it is b/c i think i've been giving them too much food, and they don't really exercise. I try to take them out of their cage, but they are always afraid, and when they do get out, they always tend to poop everywhere (which my mom doesnt want, and i need help on what to do here too) b/c they're so scared. and they only stand there, they dont really fly, and if i make them fly they bumb into stuff, and fall, and i feel like im hurting them, so i stop, but then they just stay there.

and another thing, is their cage big enough for both of them??

and they are both males, do you thing they are lonely?

and if you look at the top part of the beak, where you can determine if they are a boy or a girl, why is the green one's brown, and the other blue, is the green one a guy?

thanks everybody.

Question #11:

Ideas for catching a parakeet needed!?

We feed the wild birds and now have an escaped parakeet coming in to the feeders. Need some ideas on how to capture the little dickens as it won't be able to survive the winter outside here in N. Central PA, USA. He/she flies very well and is happily hanging out with the house finches.

Is there any food or treat that your 'keet absolutely loves that might help lure the bird into a cage?

Right now I have a bird cage nearby but letting all the birds get accustomed to that. They know when something changes around the feeders and it takes them a day or so to settle back down. Planning on putting food in the cage as the next step and progressing from there. He/she will let you get about 6 to 8' from it before flying off right now but netting would be next to impossible.

It is rather funny to hear a line of parakeet chatter in amongst the other birds songs and stranger still to see a yellow and bright green parakeet feeding at the feeders with the house finches.

Any suggestions? Wild birds I have a lot of general knowledge on but domesticated ones, not so much.

Question #12:

i need some info about Green Cheek Conures?

ok so i have never had a pet bird before but i have done some research. are they good for first time bird owners, why or why not? i would also like some general info please. if Green Cheek Conures are not bood first time birds what are some (other than parakeets and cockatiels )? i want a bird that will want to cuddle and interact with me.

Question #13:

my bird is having diaria it green?

it new parakeet

Question #14:

How do I rid of some puffy stuff my green parakeet has?

Im not sure if they are fighing wounds or if its a disease, it is all over her noes and ontop of her eye, it looks kinda like puffy dry flesh but also looks like that stuff you get in the corner of your eyes when you wake up in the morning, but not sure, she is old as well, does anyone know how to rid of this? or if it is permanent??

Question #15:

How do I make my Green Cheek Conure(GCC) Stop Biting?

She doesn't bite me as much(or as hard) as she bites my family. There are other birds in the room with her(two parakeets and one cockateil). One of the parakeets is pretty loud, the rest of the birds are quiet. Would it help to put her in a different room away from the other birds. Each bird has its own cage, so they're not really attached. I haven't let her get acquainted with the other birds because a) I want to build my bond with her. b) She doesn't seem to WANT to get acquainted. I have that bitter spray(you spray it on your hands and when you get bit the bird has a bitter taste in its mouth). The only way I can coax her out of her gage is by holding her favorite treat at the entrance of her cage( I never stick my hand in her cage. I wouldn't want a giant hand coming into my house and picking me up.). When I get her out of her cage and she finishes munching on her treat( I don't touch her while she eats), she bites me again. I know that she loves me because I socialize with her through her cage for a couple of hours every day. She's only been a member of our family for about a week( 6 days to be exact). Do you think she just needs to settle in? I've heard that GCC are very affectionate so I hope that this biting phase passes. If there is any technique to taming my birdie please tell me. I will take each and every answer into consideration.

Question #16:

how to tame a parakeet without anything but my finger but finger in 10 minute?

I have 2 parakeet and I am planing to tame them without any thing but my finger I have had a budgie that is green for 6 months and another for 2 years any advice

Question #17:

Bird Lovers!! Parrotlet. Love Bird OR Green-Cheeked Conure - Need Opinion?

Our family is considering a new avian member. I am happy with my doves, but my husband and daughter want a more personable member of the family. We had parakeets, but that's the only member of the parrot family we've experienced first-hand. Here's what we're looking for

Fairly small as parrots/parrot types go.
Fairly quiet (I've heard the GC Conures are some of the quietest)
Talking ability is nice, but not critical.
Good temperament is important (assume bird will be a hand-fed baby and given attention. We home-school, so we're here most of the day to provide affection and company and my daughter chatters all the time, so that won't be a problem.)

We're not looking for one of the extremely long-lived parrots (a friend has a African Gray that will outlive her, and it's jealous of her kids. We're not ready for that kind of commitment.)

I just want to hear opinions from "real" people..not just pet shop owners or people trying to sell their birds. I want to hear the good, the bad and the ugly so that we can make a good choice. Answer Now! The person with the winning answer can come and claim a FREE PET GOAT WETHER (black & white) if they live in East Texas!!! :)
THANKS y'all! The conures are sounding better and better so far! I could handle 20-30 years.
You are ALL giving such wonderful answers. I don't know how I'm going to choose the "best!"

Question #18:

One of my parakeets has gone missing. Advice?

I had 2 parakeets (green and blue) and I let them out in my room with the door closed, I went to the bathroom really quick and then went to take the trash down my road. my little brother came in my room and open the door and left it open. I came back and my green bird was no where to be found. I searched my whole house and can't find him. My mom said he may have gotten out of the house :( he can't fly very well, is kind of timid and quieter than most birds. What all can I do to try and find my bird? I know its a long shot but still I feel horrible that he is lost out there all alone
