all about parakeets - Pacific Parakeet Questions

Question #1:

my parrotlet hurt his foot...?

I got a little green pacific parrotlet, Zappo, today. He is only seven weeks old. Well, some of y'all who know about birds probably know that parrotlets are very small (smaller than parakeets), and so he flew underneath the trunk in my room. He then proceeded to get his foot stuck under one of the legs. We lifted up the trunk and got him out, but the hurt foot isn't gripping to my finger or hand when I hold him, and it's kinda hanging there loosely. Is this survivable? And what would you recommend doing about it? Thanks. P.S. It isn't bleeding and no bones appear to be sticking out or broken.

Question #2:

What is a good first large parrot?

I have a peach faced lovebird, a Pacific parrotlet and a cockatiel and I have owned parakeets in the past what would be a good first larger parrot, I have been looking into the pionus parrot because they are quiet

Question #3:

Training my new parrotlet?

I haven't gotten one yet but i'm planning on getting myself a new (and first)Pacific Parrotlet next summer.I've never had a closer relative of a parrot other than my parakeets. I'm looking everywhere to find good tutorials like from youtube, yahoo search, google, etc.
I just want to hear steps from you how you trained your own parrot or parrotlet ( I prefer your parrotlet specifically ). Thanks :)

Question #4:

Do you recommend any first time bird owner species?

I'm thinking either a pacific parrotlet, a green-cheeked conure, or a quaker? Which one is the best out of these 3? Pros? Cons? Any other birds? Note: please do not say parakeet/ budgie/budgerigar.
I was thinking a lovebird at first. And yes, I will be getting my birdies from a breeder that hand raises them.
The birds they breed are Lovebirds
Pacific Parrotlets
American Parakeets
English Budgies
Cockatiels
Green Quakers
Blue Quakers
Green-cheeked Conures
Marooned-belly Conures
Sun Conures
Senegals
African Greys
Double Yellow Head Amazons
Blue Front Amazons
Goffin Cockatoos
Umbrella Cockatoos
Moluccan Cockatoos
Rose Breasted Cockatoos
Hahn's Macaws
Severe Macaws
Blue & Gold Macaws
Scarlet Macaws
Green-winged Macaws

Question #5:

Lovebird Compatibility?

I have a Lovebird that has lived in its own cage for about a year I want to upgrade him to a larger cage, and I was wondering if I could put another Lovebird or Pacific Parrotlet in with him or if he has already been by himself for to long before I got him he was with two other lovebirds at the petstore in a parakeet sized cage(I know way to small) he seems to get along fine with my female Cockatiel(who keeps laying eggs for him) when he is out of the cage. Also would a male or female be better with him.
I was also wondering if it had to be another Peached Faced lovebird or if I could put a Black Masked Lovebird with him.

Question #6:

Parakeet and Pacific Parrotlets?

Prices???? And Also for common Pacific Parrotlets? I have ALL of the stuff for them. Just the prices for the birds.

Question #7:

What size cage should I use for a pacific Parotlet?

I am going to be getting a Parotlet in March and I am getting ready for him. I have seen them in some very small parakeet cages and I was wondering if that is ok. I feel they should have something a bit bigger.

Question #8:

Would playing parakeet videos help...?

Would playing parakeet videos like on youtube or something help my new parakeet get used to its new home. I got him yesterday probably i'd say at 3 pacific time. And i was on youtube just watching a video "how to tame budgies" (tehehe, im pathetic) And the bird was like talking, and then my bird like chirped ONCE. and that was the only time ive heard him sofar. and he just made noise RIGHT now randomly. So, would that help?

I know i kinda rushed it, but he wasnt eating his food, or drinking. (hes in my room, and ive been in here the entire time ive had him) And then when i started getting a spoon and scooping some food onto my hand, and offering it to him he jumps on my hand and starts eating out of it.

He will also step up onto my finger inside his cage and let me move him around freely. ( i havn't taken him out yet, because i want him to settle in more) Atleast till he starts eating more willingly, and singing.

So my question is, is that.. Should i play parakeet videos on youtube, to help him? Just wondering if it would help.

(Extra Info)
I think he is farely young, id say within 0-4month because you can sorta see the bars on his forehead and his eyes are black. I got him at petco also, they were the best birds i could find in my city :] He is in excellent shape, and his wings were already clipped when i bought him.

Thank you to everyone who answers :)
-Scott

sorry i ment 2 feet and 9 inches tall

Question #10:

How many pets are in your house?

We have a family dog named Rocky, who is half border collie and half siberian husky.
I have two hermit crabs, Atlantic and Pacific. I have a Syrian hamster named Snowball. I also have to parakeets named Jackson and Madison.
My sister, Stephanie has a beta fish named Lane and a cat named Autumn.
My other sister, Brittany, has a dwarf hamster named Cheerio and a cat named Melody.

Question #11:

Green cheeked conure OR lineolated parakeet?!?!?

Okay, I am looking into getting a new friend! I am not in experienced in keeping parrots, I have two pacific parrotlets (than have seperate cages). They probably weren't the best "starter bird" because they are basically amazon parrots mini sized... but I have gotten the hang of them :D!

okay well I have narrowed my choices down to the GCC and the linnies because of both of their quiet nature and cuddly-ness! Okay, so what I'm wondering is which would get along better with my pacific parrotlets (same room NOT same cage, obviously!) and which is a better pet in general... ?

I'm leaning more toward the green cheeked conure because I want more of a "real parrot" but IDK I also really like the linnies... I was also considering peach fronted conure but read they were aggressive toward other birds!

I'm open to other suggestions as well... Just NOTHING Bias though, okay!

Thanks for your time,

Micah

Question #12:

pacific parrotlet and parakeet?

i have a parakeet, and i am amost positive that i am getting one, or two pacific parrotlets. And also what size cage and are they loud? thanks, any information will help.
and if i get one boy and one girl they wont mate together if i put them in the same cage will they? because they are brother and sister i mean...because i dont want them to have eggs...
