Question #4:

building trust with my new parakeet? parakeet owners?

well i saved this parakeet that was nearly dying and could not even stand.
because of dehydration.he was found by a family friend and well i saved his life and bought him a cage and kept him as my own. anyway, this was 3 days ago and i did a bunch of research on building trusts with them. about how to stick your hand in the cage and yeah. ive been doing that and speaking to him. when i put my hand in the cage hes still scared!

i really want him to trust me, so i can hold him and he can use my finger as a perch.
any tips that worked with your parakeet?
how long did it take for him/her to trust you?

Question #5:

Outdoor Training a Budgie or Parakeet?

I Read many people who state that they let their birds out doors, out of a cage, and have them return at night time. This was a little shocking to me and I was wondering how common it is? Also, is it something I could train my budgies to do?

Question #11:

Can you train a 7 month old parakeet?

I bought a 7 month old budgie today from my local pet store. The owner claimed she is 7 months old and I was worried about being able to train her so late. As of right now if I move slowly she will let me put my hand in the cage and even come within inches of her if I move slowly. I love this bird and I am worried that I wont be able to have her climb the ladder ring the bell or perch on my finger. Also I got a little impatient and tried putting my hand in there a few times today. I think she might be scarred of me or too old to be trained. Anyone with experience have any advice?

Question #12:

I thought my parakeet was a girl...now im not sure.?

It has a white cere with blue tints, the tints are light not nearly as dark as the male bird blue beak. it used to have a brown one. *it is a blue parakeet if that matters* its pretty agressive towards the male bird. its always the first to eat. it yells alot at the other. it likes to bite on the things and espically climb the cage and little swings. Im hoping it was a girl for the other bird...is it?
@wings both the birds are a few months over the year
there was a article that said female birds are more agressive?
guys, please answer!
well it does have a dark blue coat with with gray feathers on the wing. the male is bright blue with white wings

Question #13:

Should I give my parakeets new food everyday?

My parakeets often drop a lot of foods to the buttom of the cage, can I collect those foods and put them back into the cup for them to eat? Are they still eatable? Most of the food dropped i noticed are shells, the inside has been eaten. Can I collect those shells are put them back into the cup for them to eat?

Question #14:

hmm are my parakeets (budgies) gay?

We have 10 parakeets all together. 8 in one big'ol cage and 2 in another.we dont put em together because for some reason the 8 pick on the female in the smaller cage...the 5 out of 8 is a family.the dad, mom, daughter(at least we think its a female she was born in febuary and her cere is khaki),aunt, and uncle....the uncle and dad both like the yellow male in the smaller cage....we think the yellow one is a male even thought the cere is pink/purple because one time we saw the male go on top of the female and soon after that she got a big but/belly but never laid an egg...so do the dad and uncle and the yellow male canary like each other??..also when i open up their cage to let them fly around, them three are always together pecking at each others beaks and i think feeding each other also the uncle pecks at the female in the smaller cage even though she tries to keep her distance.so can they possibly be gay?

Question #15:

My parakeet escaped from the cage?

I left my parakeet cage on a stand. Then a frekin cat knocked it over. The top part got detached and my two parakeets escaped. It happened when I wasn't home. What should I do?

Question #16:

HELP! My parakeets got into a fight and one is hurt really bad!?

I need help! I noticed my parakeets fighting 3 days ago, so my dad’s been looking for another cage to separate them. They just had eggs recently, but I don’t think they were fertile because they ended up kicking them out of their home. But when they were sitting on the eggs, the little fights started. My boy wouldn’t let her leave the house for 3 days and when she finally got out, she refused to go back in the nest, so he ended up spending 12 days on the eggs, till he kick them out. They’ve been having little fights on and off since then but for the last 3 days things have been VERY violent between them. We were going to separate them tomorrow, but today when I came home from school I realized that my female bird was only resting on one leg (she’s back on it now) and when the boy turned his head his right eye is half way shut and there is dried and fresh blood all around it and down his beak. His feathers look slightly pulled, and my girl bird was scraping her beak on a wooden stick like she was sharpening it (maybe she’s getting the blood off her beak?). Now my boy is shaking his head up and down every time she gets near him and tries to put his beak near hers. I'm currently supervising them until my dad gets back with the cage. I have no idea what to do! He’s bleeding, hurt, shaking, bobbing his head up and down (it looks like she’s feeding him when they do this) and his blood is on her beak and she looks like she’s getting herself ready for battle again. We have no money for a vet right now. I don’t think Petco will take him back. So what now? Do I separate them and let him tough it out? I don’t think he’s going to make it. Is there a place that will take him? Any suggestions on how to care for this? Is there something I can give him? Median, certain food, items? PLEASE! I NEED HELP NOW!

Question #17:

Should I remove my parakeets unfertilized egg from the cage?

i have a female parakeet (aprox. age 10-11 years old). She has off and on laid an egg. she laid one about 3-4 days ago and she seemed to be sitting on it waiting for it to hatch. i let it be figuring she'd lose interest when it didn't hatch. now today i find a second egg was laid and she's sprawling out trying to cover both. can i remove them or at least one? i've read conflicting things. also does she need to go to a vet? there is no other parakeet in the cage so it's definitely unfertilized.

Question #18:

What can be wrong with my parakeet when they are gnawing on things?

They have been gnawing on the wood toys that I put in their bird cage and they also all of a sudden got to the point they don't want to come out their cage.

Question #19:

Is this bar spacing appropriate for a budgie?

So i've been searching craigslist for around a couple months now and think i have found the perfect cage. It provides plenty of space for the parakeet/budgie i'm getting soon. Its really nice, especially for the price. The only issue is the bar spacing, which happens to be 3/4 inch and more than recommended. Its quite frustrating that this near perfect cage has this tiny yet important flaw. So i was wondering if this would matter too much? Also, would getting an english budgie make much of a difference?

Question #20:

my parakeet jump on the bowl of water?

my bird randomly jump(or fell? ) on the bowl of water i was holding for them

when they drink i hold a bowl of water for them to drink then one of my bird fell or jump in the bowl and a spill ow water in their cage

the question is my bird gonna be alright ?
