Question #1:
I have two parakeets, a blue male: Blizzard, and a rare female: Minty. (Rare parakeet is the breed, she is gray, yellow, green, black and white.)
They live in this cage:

and I keep one of the blue top roofs propped open so they can fly around whenever they want in my (birdy proofed) room.
They have a rope perch, three wooden, and a couple plastic swings. They always have access to millet spay, and occasionally I put in birdy treat sticks. They have an assortment of toys that I rotate every once and a while, and they always have fresh bird seeds and water. (their water is in a bird bath that they drink/swim in.):

They get daily attention by me and my family, and will perch on your finger and Minty gives "kisses" (she will lean over to your lips and give you a peck) :)
They don't have their wings clipped - I don't like the thought of them not being able to fly as they're meant to.
Also, the only eat their seeds/treat sticks/ and millet spray. Occasionally they will munch on some Triscut crackers, but I'm thinking they're shredding them more that eating it. they won't touch any veggies or fruits, and I cant get them to eat pellets (which I know are better for them) so.. help??
Oh, their cage is cleaned daily, too.
thanks!!
rate 10 to 1. 10 being amazing, and 1 being poor.
tell me what to improve on. I wan't them to live long, healthy, happy lives.
(I've had them for nearly 10 years.)
Okay, typo! i've had them for nearly 4 years.. whoops. thanks for everyone whose answered, i will definitely try switching to pellets and introducing new healthy foods :)
Question #2:
i am going across state line to adopt a parrot. she has toys, but could use some new ones. Can i take her into the petsmart in that area? all the pet supply stores in my area are geared towards aquatics or dogs and cats. what bird supplies they do have are for parakeets, cockatiels and other SMALL birds.
she will be on a tether.
when we go to get her will be the only chance for quite a while that i could personally see the product before it arrives at my house in a box. she is a two year old Congo African Grey, but i am unsure if she is UTD on shots or whatnot.
and YES she will be going to a vet in my area that specializes with parrots as soon as we get her home. i would wait until then to take her in, but it is a three hour drive to the nearest petsmart or petco. if it comes down to it, i will just go in before we pick her up... i just wanted to see if i have the option to take her in too!
thank you everyone for advising me to keep Baylee away from the other birds. this was a strong concern of mine even before i read your messages, but after reading i feel that it would be best for Baylee if i shopped before we went to get her.
Skylarr! - I have been told that this parrot has been in the public many times to teach children about birds. she is comfortable in the public eye, but i am still new to her. thank you for the advice on stress! i don't want her to start associating me with stress.
and Gail - thank you for catching the 'shots'! lol. i was meaning bloodwork - such as tests for illnesses. i do NOT know why i said shots.
and thank you, i intend to be a very good companion to her and provide everything she would ever need or want!
thank you everyone!

I got my parakeet about week ago. He seems to enjoy it when I speak, sing, or play music for him because he puffs up. He hasn't yet played with any of his toys and he usually only sits on his perch. As soon as I open his cage door to do anything; change his food/water, put in a new toy, ect., he starts flying around and freaking out. What do I need to do to train him?
Question #6:

Question #9:
(sorry repost)- more questions my mom has .......
Okay so my mom is having me put this add up to decide who should get the bigger room...... The one room is 11' x 13' and the other room is 9'x12' ................ So 2 of the girls are going to be sharing a room together they are both 7 years old (twins) the teen will be getting her own room They only stay at the house 3 -4 times a week and the rest at their dads (they did not wanna switch schools this year).. All the have to put in there are bunk beds a big box of toys that fix in the double closet (which the closet is NOT counted in the measurements they would have 1 walk in closet and anther closet with shelves in the room …..) a dresser and TV .....
The teen age girl is going to be in her own room with ...... 8 parakeets (2 big cages , desk for school , 2 fish tanks that are 55 gallons each with 2 turtles in them …. a cat and a dog the dog is a SD and has his own crate in the room ....... The bigger room also has a bathroom in it which the older girl has stomach problems and throw up a lot ....... The teen has had trouble keeping food down and anxiety since a young age .The younger kids really don't need a bathroom in their room plus they will take the "girl stuff" out of the wrapping and ruin them if they are put in the bathroom for everyone to use- they have just did that the other day. Also the twin only stay in the room for less then 20 minutes of the day plus they would rather fall asleep on the fold out couch in the living room so they aren't in the room very much .... ( we have not moved yet but the smaller room would be BIGGER then the room they are in now plus the walk in closet and the big closet they are going to have......The mother thought the teenager should have the bigger room cause she is always home and have the most in her room but her X thinks its unfair to his kids and is going to call CPS because the room is "to small" for them.
We are turing the garage into a play room for them so they have more toys and stuff in their too ... its has heat in their but to much of a draft for the animals to go in their.Who do you thin should get the bigger room and why .
thx so much
Sorry for the repost - someone spammed the question and it got deleted because of it ... people who posted please repost thanks

Question #11:
i have 2 parakeets and they don't really have any toys is it necessary for them to have toys.
Question #12:
Hubby and I rent a room from an older couple. I went out on the town the other day, and when I came home, our landlady's sister had brought 7 parakeets in a cage, that is now sitting in the living room. I was like OMGWTFDUDE?
So, now what? I know that they like bird toys like bells and spinning, shiny things to play with, but other than that I have nooo idea how to play with them, teach them tricks, treats they like to eat, what to do when they lay eggs, etc. I do know not to feed them rice.
My landlady said that they will mate for life and there are 4 males and 3 females. I feel really bad because 1 male isn't going to have a girlfriend. Should we get another female parakeet for him?
Any help will be appreciated, thank you!
Question #13:
I just got a blue baby parakeet. He is about 10 weeks old. He was plucking his feathers. There arent many toys, but I'm not sure if it's from boredom/lack of toys or a disease. Please help! I just got him yesterday and I don't want him to die :(
Thanks! I feel less stressful now :) BTW each time i picked him up he flew to the bottom of the cage and started like freaking out and the only time he eats is when he's on the bottom of the cage, freaking out. What does this mean? is it stress?
Thanks everyone! I guess I should stop putting him on the bottom of the cage and instead I should calm him down. Right now I think he's really stressed cuz I just got him sooo he's probably just too scared to eat. Thanks again and I promise to take good care of him! :P
btw I think its just stress cuz he only does it when he's on the bottom of the cage
Question #14:
I am 13 and need some ways to figure out how to pay for a parakeet, toys, food, treats. (i already have the cage.) i figured out that the cost for all of that comes out to around $40. keep in mind that i am only 13 and can not have a job. i am not too sure about a garage sale either because most people would not buy stuff from a 13 year old. i have tried baby sitting but that didnt work out. any other ideas?
Question #15:
Any ideas? Special thanks to everyone for writing any ideas! Thank you! :)
Question #16:
My lovebird constantly plucks his feathers. I've taken him to the vet for a mites vaccine, I've given him new toys and change them around every week, he's constantly out of his cage, and I've added vitamins to his food. I'm thinking of getting a parakeet so he won't be so lonely. Is that a good idea? I read somewhere that lovebirds don't get along with other bird species.
Question #17:
I got 2 Parakeets and so far had them for 1 day. One is male and one is female. And they don't do anything. They don't sing, play with their toys, eat or drink. Can someone help?
Question #18:
I had him for a year and a half. He is very quiet and does not play with its toys very often. I want to get a new parakeet for him but its cage is too small. Is their a way to cheer him up without getting him a new friend. my cage is 16"L x 11"W x 20"H. Please help my parakeet!
Question #19:
Hello everyone.
This lady I know found a cockatiel and has been searching for its owner but no avail. She is keeping him in a small dog cage and is not interacting with it and has been at her home for a few weeks. She wants to know if we can take the bird.
My girlfriend and I are 21 and live in a 2 bedroom condo. We are animal lovers and have geckos, bearded dragons, cats, and pet rats. We work from 7am-4pm and do online schooling while we are at work. We babysit parakeets from time to time and the cats don't bother them whatsoever.
Financial and space issues are not a problem. With this in mind, do you think we would be able to provide a good home for the cockatiel? I have seen articles on the internet that claim if you work and are gone for a few hours a day you NEED a cagemate, and some other sites that claim it's OK to leave them alone while you are at work as long as they have toys and stimulation, and if you spend more than an hour with them a day.
Also, if somebody can post a *reputable*(not some fansite a 13 year old made) link that covers in-depth care it would be appreciated.
Question #20:
Other than the kitty litter, food, toys and stuff like that. I'm getting tired of having small animals and birds in my family. I've had a hamster, and a bajillion birds. My parents and I moved into a new apartment a couple months ago, and we live on the second floor. Our landowner says that we can't have pets, I'm pretty sure he meant cats or dogs. The unfair part is that this family living below us have a dog. The confusing part, is that he says that I can have a cat but it would eat my parakeet, and I'd have to carpet the entire place if I'm gonna get a dog. <---that's the story line.
So, I'm just wondering about this stuff. If ever my parents and I are planning on getting a cat (which is probably never, unless we find a good spot for the kitty litter), what are the things I should know? And I've heard that cats are low maintenance, which is a plus for me, because all I wanna do is change the food, water and kitty litter. And keep it an indoor cat. Sorry that it's long guys and thanks!
P.S: In the nearest future, I want to know which breed of cat's good for me, although I've kind of decided on an Egyptian Mau or a Russian Blue...any ideas though??
